Fist time in the Taxi

Okay before I move on, you have to understand that I am a bad-luck magnet and everything that can go wrong goes wrong in my daily activities. So I was at plaza Las Americas and I know by a fact that from this place to home with the cab will cost me 30 pesos.

Keep in mind that all taxis in Cancun look the same, they are white with a green horizontal stripe over the car, sometimes the cars fall almost apart, and some are really nice with AC in there. In from of the mall there are a lot of cabs waiting for people to go in and I took one of those. I told him where I wanted to go and he drove peacefully to my destination, we even had some kind of conversation as far as my Spanish goes. At the arrival I give him my 30 pesos and want to get out of the car, but then he says I have to pay him 60 pesos and we get in a little argument, which of course I don’t understand because when Mexican people get mad they even speak faster as when they are not. Anyhow, I know that it is only 30 and I want to get out the car, but he locks the car. Okay, now I am terrified. I just figured it would be the easiest thing to give him the 60 pesos and so I do. Asshole. At home I tell Lydia what happened and she agreed with me, I should not have paid the 60 pesos. So, this first experience with the taxi was not really the most exciting one. I would recommend everyone to just give the money and directly open the door. In addition, make sure you have the money I the exact amount because if you have to receive some change they can also refuse to give you the amount you deserve. After a while and a few more rides in the taxi I asked around of how this could happen, and it did happen to me more than one time. Now listen carefully, if you are going to plaza Las Americas or any other place where there is a line of taxis in front of the building, you have to pay more. Just walk down the street and hold a driving taxi. This will save you some money. All drivers explain it the same, if you get a cab in the ‘calle’, they charge less because they don’t waste time by waiting in front of a mall for instance. This is a golden tip I can support through own experience. And now I feel kind of bad for the scene I made with the fist cab driver because he was not scamming me, he was honest and I was the fool.
