Of course you should stay out of the hospitals in Cancún but sometimes things happen that you were not planning on. The hospitals in Cancún are very good and modern and the doctors are just as good as in Europe. When something happens and you need an ambulance, there is little chance that the ambulance will actually come to the scene. Try to let someone give you a ride to the hospital, because if you have to wait for the ambulance it can take a lot longer than you are used to and sometimes in a serious matters you can save someone’s life by driving yourself.
Most hospitals are private and very expensive, however, the insurance company in your country will probably take care of all costs; please check this before coming to Mexico.
You have to remember that Mexican Hospitals do not accept medical insurance from other countries. You should buy the Traveller’s Medical Insurance before coming to Cancún or Mexico in general.
Moreover, there are plenty of pharmacies where you can get a lot of medication without prescription; it is not as strict as in Europe so you may want to go here first before the hospital.
