Rain in cancun

Since I was not able to get enough cash from the ATM Lydia was taking me to another bank in Cancun with her car where she had to do a deposit too. On our way to the bank it started to rain, not even that much but enough rain to get wet (haha of course). Anyway, as soon as it started to rain loads of cars stopped and stand at the side of the road. I mean, I’m from the Netherlands, if it rains anywhere it is in the Netherlands, and we don’t bother if it rains, just keep driving. However, there were so many cars not driving anymore that I decided to figure out why they stop. Lydia told me that a lot of people are scared for car crashes because even if the pavement got a little wet it would get really slippery. And in addition, only few people have insurance on their car. That seemed more logic, because cars are not insured they stop when it starts to rain to prevent car crashes and get huge bills. Then the second question popped in my mind, if this is so dangerous, WHY ARE WE STILL DRIVING. I didn’t know if I needed to be scared or just relax. I didn’t breath the rest of the trip to the bank and once we got out the car it already stopped raining. I mean, even when in rains in Mexico it is an adventure. When we got home a few moments later it really started to rain. And with really I mean insane waterfall dropping out or the air. As I said, I’m used to rain, but this was just rain to a whole other level. (see foto) probably when I would hold a bucket in my hand and go stand outside it would be filled with water in 10 seconds. In Cancun the drainage system is really bad so there were a few street full with water. And it only rained for like 15 minutes.
