The Arrival

I flew from Amsterdam to Houston and from Houston to Cancun. It took me 17 hours in total to get to my destination. Once I arrived at the airport there were many people standing at the exit of the terminal. I was looking for Lydia, the hostess of the room I was staying in, but I did not even know what she looked like. A moment later a little woman had a paper in her hand with my name on it. Her name was Pati, a friend of Lydia's. She directed me to Lydia's car and there I met Lydia, both of them were so nice. She brought me with her car to her house and I quickly discovered how different the traffic was in Cancun. I would not recommend someone like me who has her drivers licence only for 1 year to rent a car over here, not that that's possible because you have to be 25 years old. However, I wouldn't say the traffic is disordered but it is definitely more chaotic than European traffic. It's just different. Anyhow, when I arrived at her house she had 8 locks and 2 doors to secure her home. One the one hand this gave me a very safe feeling but on the other hand I was very curious for what all this security was needed. I asked her, she said that it is just common to lock your house like this and that I did not have to be afraid to go on the streets by myself, even at night. She gave me some water from a big bottle, because you cannot drink any tap water in Mexico, and then I unpacked my stuff and went to sleep. It was a long trip and a very exhausting day.
